Making a mark for impact.

Hello, Chris and Kendall. About a week ago, I realized there’s one very important thing your ministry needs, but doesn’t have–a brandmark, or “logo.” Basically, The Dawning Light needs some sort of simple, visual identifier that people can see and associate with your ministry’s great work and experiences.

So I began working on creating a mark for your wonderful “brand of ministry.” I put this page together to show you guys the mark I designed and propose you use for The Dawning Light–in print, online, everywhere!

The thinking

Make it simple and playfully reverent. The mark should contribute to the story of the ministry without taking itself too seriously. It should hold a sense of delight and joy within itself. Also, handmade. It should absolutely be handmade—slight imperfections and all. That’ll help give your ministry’s visual identity a warm, earthy and humble feel.

As I doodled, sketch and drew, those thoughts swam around in my head. After quickly hatching out a number of good ideas, I began to settle into a visual style that really felt appropriate for The Dawning Light.

This, I propose, is the face of The Dawning Light’s visual identity. Its logo. Its brandmark. Handcrafted, playful and full of love. I believe this brandmark can do well to support your ministry and help the people you bless remember the love of Christ they experienced through you.

Using our imagination

As a designer, I believe it’s useful to show clients like yourself how a proposed brandmark will look out in the world. Below, you’ll find a few imagined applications of your ministry’s mark to help you envision its use and see its usefulness as I do. Again, these are just pretend applications purposed to show what The Dawning Light’s brandmark will look like when used in the world.

See, you guys already love the design. Just look at how good it looks on Chris!

The result

I honestly love this brandmark. Its simple, visually suggests a rising light and is even easy to cheaply reproduce in print since it doesn’t have complex overlapping shapes and colors. It’s practical, delightful and crafted almost entirely by hand. I think the mark will evoke desirable emotions in people as it is positioned in close proximity to the amazing work you two will be doing in North Cyprus and beyond through The Dawning Light

I hope you love it too.
